About me

Hello, I’m Jim Essery, Cabinet Maker by trade.
I trained with the David Charlesworth Furniture School in Devon during 2006-2007, relocating for the year with my young family. The experience was fantastic and upskilled the root-level knowledge I had to date, after working within the workshops at Lawsons Timber in Edinburgh. Prior to this I worked in the theatre, but that’s another story!

Previously living in the Scottish Borders, I worked as a self-employed Cabinet Maker.
Initially projects were for family and friends, but word of mouth meant small and large cabinetry projects over a 12 year period came my way, which include works such as a large meeting room ‘river’ table for a large HR firm, fitting a bar within a bier café, renovating sentimental furniture pieces that had been ‘sun blighted’, or having the dreaded plant pot stains, kitchen fittings, amongst other work.
Additionally, I was creating oak flooring, live edge skirting and door frames, workshop building and furniture making such as bookcases, shelving, wardrobe solutions, staircases and kitchen cabinets; for my own family home and customers locally and further afield.

In 2019 I had the opportunity to upskill to a woodworking discipline I was interested in, but knew would be challenging. Angus & Mack (angusandmack.com) are leading the way in bespoke staircase and interior fittings across Scotland and the UK. Have a look through to see the variety of projects I have worked on with them.
The company moved to The Highlands in 2022 and as a family, we followed for the adventure.
Now, in 2024, I have decided to go self-employed again. I have missed the variety of work, but also the joy of design as well as the customer interaction. Contact me to let me know how I can help with your project.
